Arkansas private school: ‘Staff is armed and trained’
In the wake of Arkansas’s decision to prevent school districts from proactively arming their teachers, a private school is taking the exact opposite approach.
The pastor of Arkansas Christian Academy in Bryant, Ark., has decided to advertise the fact that at any time, between one and seven school staff members are carrying guns.
Staff members began receiving training and permits to carry weapons earlier this year, in response to the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. Now, a sign outside Christian Academy stands as a warning to any would-be shooter.
“Staff is armed and trained. Any attempt to harm children will be met with deadly force,” reads the sign.
Administrators of public schools in Clarksville, Ark., had a similar idea, and began training and arming staff members earlier this summer. State Attorney General Dustin McDaniel came out against the plan, however, and a state regulatory agency nixed it entirely last week. (RELATED: Arkansas vetoes school’s plan to arm teachers)
Black’s decision to arm teachers was praised by Republican gubernatorial candidate Curtis Coleman.
“I admire the school’s administrator, Perry Black, for recognizing that every moment counts when a gun-toting criminal intent on taking innocent lives is on campus,” he said in a statement.

Mystery solved. America’s ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power was in Ireland on a personal trip when she missed an emergency meeting on the alleged chemical gas attack in Syria, U.N. sources tell Fox News.
A day earlier, State Department officials were mum when asked for information on Power’s whereabouts. She had come under fire for missing Wednesday’s urgent U.N. Security Council meeting, where delegations weighed how to respond to charges that the Assad regime had just committed the deadliest chemical weapons attack in the country’s two-year civil war.
The meeting, and her absence, came just 19 days after Power assumed the U.N. leadership post.
Power also did not attend a meeting Friday afternoon on Sudan — another trouble spot that Power has focused on in the past — though it is likely that such a meeting would have been attended by a deputy anyway.

Indonesia’s top Islamic authority lashed out Friday at the country’s decision to host the Miss World beauty pageant next month, saying that women exposing their bodies went against Muslim teaching.
The pageant is already facing opposition in Muslim-majority Indonesia, with radicals vowing to stage protests against the contest even after organisers agreed to drop the bikini round in a bid to avoid causing offence.
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) added its voice to the protests Friday, saying a top-level meeting of clerics earlier this month decided it did not want the pageant in the country.
“Exposing women’s bodies in public is ‘haram’, forbidden by Islamic teaching,” senior MUI official Muhyiddin Junaidi told reporters in the capital Jakarta.
“Even though the bikini event is being axed, the contestants will still wear tight dresses and expose parts of their body.”
The group also urged the country’s Muslims, more than 90 percent of the 240 million population, not to watch the pageant on television.

DELBERT BELTON
WWII veteran Delbert Belton survived being wounded in action during the Battle of Okinawa only to be beaten and left for dead by two teens at the Eagles Lodge in Spokane on Wednesday evening.
Belton, 88, succumbed to his injuries Thursday morning at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Witnesses say Belton was in the parking lot of the Eagles Lodge at 6410 N. Lidgerwood, adjacent to the Eagles Ice-A-Rena, around 8 p.m. Wednesday when the two male suspects attacked him as he was about to head inside to play pool.
Police responded with K-9s to track the suspects' scent but were not able to locate them.
"It does appear random. He was in the parking lot, it appears he was assaulted in the parking lot and there was no indication that he would have known these people prior to the assault," Spokane Police Major Crimes Detective Lieutenant Mark Griffiths said.
Belton died from his injuries Thursday morning at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Police say they have arrested one of two teens suspected of fatally beating an 88-year-old veteran of World War II who had survived the Battle of Okinawa.
Authorities say the two young African American men, between 16 and 19 years old, approached Delbert Belton in his car at random Wednesday night outside an Eagles Lodge as he was waiting for a friend.
Belton was found by police with serious head injuries and died in the hospital Thursday.
Belton’s daughter-in-law tells KREM-TV that the suspects beat him with flashlights.
“They used those great big heavy flashlights,” Bobbie Belton said. “The doctors said he was bleeding from all parts of his face.”

I LEFT MARYLAND AT 4 IN THE MORNING, 13 1/2 HOURS LATER I PULLED INTO THE HOLIDAY INN AT INDIANAPOLIS... BASICALLY WASTED! I RODE THE 2 LANE HWY 50 THROUGH THE APPALACHIANS AND THEN THE 555 NORTH FROM PARKERSBURG, WV. SOMEHOW I JUST HEADED WEST AFTER THAT AND POPPED-OUT AND INDY.
THE MIGHTY BMW K1300S SAVED MY ASS ON "THE TRIPLE NICKEL" HWY 555... A TWISTY, BLIND CREST LADEN TWO LANER! VERY RURAL WITH GRAVEL DRIVEWAYS TO SMALL FAMILY HOUSES OR SPRAWLING FARMS, KEY WORD HERE IS GRAVEL! YOU WOULD POP-UP OVER A HILL AND BE STARING DEAD INTO A BLIND 90 DEGREE TURN WITH GRAVEL ALL OVER THE PLACE... HOLY SHIT! WAS I SMART ENOUGH TO SLOW DOWN?

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIGHWAY 50, I HAVE NOW RIDDEN IT COAST-TO-COAST! IT HAS THE MOST FLAVOR OF ALL THIS NATIONS NATIONAL HIGHWAYS.
ANYWAY, SPENT THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS TEARING THE MACHINE DOWN FOR CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE... LOOKING GOOD AGAIN! HE RAN FLAWLESSLY.

RANDY MAMOLA GAVE HIS PASSENGERS A FAST LAP FROM THE START-FINISH LINE AND I DO MEAN FAST. VERY COOL TO WATCH! OBVIOUSLY BETTER TO TO BE A RIDER.

I THOUGHT THESE GIRLS WERE CARDBOARD CUTOUTS AND THE GUYS WERE JUST TAKING PICTURES OF THEMSELVES, IT WAS PRETTY FUNNY UNTIL THE LADIES STARTED MOVING. SO ALL DAY SATURDAY I JUST WATCHED THE UMBRELLA GIRLS, MUCH BETTER THAN A BUNCH OF GUYS ON BIKES. HONDA AND YAMAHA CHICKS WERE THE BEST TO VIEW.
JORGE LORENZO LED MOST OF THE RACE, FINISHED 3RD. HE WAS NOT THE FAN FAVORITE. THE HONDAS WERE JUST SUPERIOR BIKES FOR THE DAY.
VALENTIO ROSSI LOOKED LIKE HE RETIRED FROM RACING UNTIL THE LAST 8 LAPS. HE THEN PASSED 5 OR 6 GUYS FROM A LONG, LONG WAY BACK TO FINISH FOURTH. I THOUGHT HE WAS THE FASTEST AT THE END OF THE DAY.

Oprah Says She’s “Sorry” For Accusing Saleswoman of Being a Racist For Not Recognizing Her…

Oprah Winfrey said she’s sorry for the media brouhaha she created by speaking to a television reporter about the perceived racism she felt when a sales associate at an upscale shop in Zurich declined to let her see a pricey handbag.
Ms. Winfrey attributed the shop worker’s refusal to discrimination. She said the associate, who didn’t recognize the star, told her she couldn’t afford the estimated $40,000 item and that maybe she would like to see cheaper bags.
The shop associate has since denied Ms. Winfrey’s versions of events, saying she never suggested the icon couldn’t afford the item. Both associate and shop owner have since apologized.
Now Ms. Winfrey has, too.
The Associated Press reported her as saying: “I think that incident in Switzerland was just an incident in Switzerland. I’m really sorry that it got blown up. I purposely did not mention the name of the store. I’m sorry that I said it was Switzerland. I was just referencing it as an example of being in a place where people don’t expect that you would be able to be there.”
Ms. Winfrey made the remarks during promotion of her new movie, “The Butler.”
She also said, AP reported: “I’m in a store and the person doesn’t obviously know that I carry the black card and so they make an assessment based upon the way I look and who I am. I didn’t have anything that said ‘I have money.’ I wasn’t wearing a diamond stud. I didn’t have a pocketbook. I didn’t wear Louboutin shoes. I didn’t have anything. You should be able to go in a store looking like whatever you look like and say ‘I’d like to see this.’ That didn’t happen.”
