US Presidential hopeful Zoltan Istvan, a Third Party candidate in the race to become America’s next leader, has warned that the development of AI is going to have the biggest impact on humanity that has ever been.
Scientists across the globe have been frantically working on the development of artificial intelligence, which would see machines or software expressing intelligence on par with humans.
Many have warned on the perils of developing machines that are as capable as us, as it could realistically make humans obsolete as they could take our jobs, and eventually see us as more of a hindrance.
Mr Istvan, a transhumanist – a movement that wants to use science and technology to radically change the human being and the human experience by merging our bodies with machine – and futurist, share similar worries.

The first ever death in an autonomous car happened in May this year, the US road safety administration revealed yesterday. A man was killed after his Tesla, operating in Autopilot mode, hit an articulated lorry. The accident has cast doubt over the safety of the technology, but the baby should not be thrown out with the bathwater, say experts.
Joshua Brown was driving along a Florida highway in a Tesla Model S that had been switched to Autopilot mode, when a lorry joined the road from a cross street. Unable to distinguish the white truck against the brightly lit sky, the self-driving system failed to apply the brakes.
In a press release, Tesla said the incident was a tragic loss, but noted that it was the first fatality in 130 million miles of Autopilot driving. The company compared that to regular driving, which incurs one fatality per 94 million miles in the US.
Tesla also stressed that the self-driving feature is still in the beta testing phase, and is only designed to be semi-autonomous. Drivers are instructed to keep their hands on the steering wheel in case of a software hiccup.

When Louisiana, Missouri, police arrived at the scene of a nighttime house fire, they discovered two distraught parents trying desperately to get into the back door to rescue their three-year-old son, Riley Jeffrey Miller. Rather than attempting to aid the rescue, the police decided that Riley was as good as dead, so they repeatedly tasered Mr. Miller and eventually arrested him.
Think about this for a minute: Mr. Miller was so determined to rescue his son that he was tasered three times before police could control him. Apparently the police’s entire efforts were bent towards controlling a distraught father, rather than rescuing a trapped child. No wonder the child’s aunt, in the video above, describes them as “heartless.”
What do you think of the police decision to disable Mr. Miller to block any rescue attempt? Should they have allowed Mr. Miller to engage in conduct they deemed suicidal? Or were they so bureaucratically rigid that they failed to understand that there are certain things a father must to do for his child and so unimaginative that they couldn’t imagine the possibility of a miracle?

SPOKANE, Wash. -
WWII veteran Delbert Belton survived being wounded in action during the Battle of Okinawa only to be beaten and left for dead by two teens at the Eagles Lodge in Spokane on Wednesday evening.
Belton, 88, succumbed to his injuries Thursday morning at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Witnesses say Belton was in the parking lot of the Eagles Lodge at 6410 N. Lidgerwood, adjacent to the Eagles Ice-A-Rena, around 8 p.m. Wednesday when the two male suspects attacked him as he was about to head inside to play pool.
Police responded with K-9s to track the suspects' scent but were not able to locate them.
"It does appear random. He was in the parking lot, it appears he was assaulted in the parking lot and there was no indication that he would have known these people prior to the assault," Spokane Police Major Crimes Detective Lieutenant Mark Griffiths said.
Belton died from his injuries Thursday morning at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Police say they have arrested one of two teens suspected of fatally beating an 88-year-old veteran of World War II who had survived the Battle of Okinawa.
Authorities say the two young African American men, between 16 and 19 years old, approached Delbert Belton in his car at random Wednesday night outside an Eagles Lodge as he was waiting for a friend.
Belton was found by police with serious head injuries and died in the hospital Thursday.
Belton’s daughter-in-law tells KREM-TV that the suspects beat him with flashlights.
“They used those great big heavy flashlights,” Bobbie Belton said. “The doctors said he was bleeding from all parts of his face.”

Nearly 200 high school hockey teams in Pennsylvania have been advised to eliminate the national anthem because it takes too much time to perform and costs too much money. “We are recommending the national anthem not be played or sung or whatever it is,” Ed Sam, commissioner of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League told Fox News. “It has absolutely nothing to do with patriotism at all. That’s the furthest thing from the truth.” Schools were notified of the directive in an email from the PIHL. He said teams are only allotted a certain amount of time to play matches.
