Double world champ Greg Hancock admits he may have been “a little bit overconfident” in Auckland as he bids to kick-start his 2014 title bid in the Meridian Lifts European SGP at Bydgoszcz tonight.
The 43-year-old left the season-opening New Zealand SGP with six points on April 5 – all of them earned in his last two races after he ran a shock three last places in his opening outings.
This has left him 13 points behind World Championship leader Nicki Pedersen, but the Californian knows he has 11 rounds to close the gap.
"I can’t say we had anything major wrong in New Zealand. Maybe I came into it a little bit overconfident."
- Greg Hancock
Hancock was pleased with Friday’s practice in Poland and is determined to make sure he takes it into the meeting this time.
He said: “You’re only as good as you’re last race and I’m going to roll with that one! I was sure I was going to win after practice in Auckland. I had a good one in Bydgoszcz, but I know I could still be better.
“I can’t say we had anything major wrong in New Zealand. Maybe I came into it a little bit overconfident.
“I don’t think I did anything wrong, except bad decisions in the first corner. I wasn’t there clean enough to make the right decisions either.
“I came back strong in the last two and I’m not going to think too much about that meeting. Other people had an off-day too. It’s a long season and I really want to put that one behind me. It seems the only thing anyone ever talks about is my first three heats.”
