Cpl. Nathan Cirillo paid with his life to guard the Canadian National War Memorial. He was unarmed and unsuspecting when shot at close range by a vengeful lunatic who later stormed Parliament hill.
Cirillo’s life was honored in a dignified funeral procession taking six hours to go from Ottawa to Hamilton, his hometown on a highway known during such processions as Highway of Heroes. Onlookers lined the overpass and paid respectful notice to the passing motorcade taking Cirillo to his final resting place.
Meanwhile, Cirillo’s dogs were at home, fretfully awaiting his return.
